Ice-Cream and Cupcakes
With the last few days of Summer still creeping in, today is perfect to share the cute button badges my friend, Jill and I created last month for the special loves in our lives. We came across one of The Pretty Blog’s do-able DIY’s and decided to give it a try but as button badges instead. They remind me of all the great things about Summer holidays: being care free, spending time with your favourite people and eating lots of sweet treats, like ice-cream and cupcakes, of course.

If you can manage to get yourself to one of The Creamery’s stalls in Cape Town, for amazing handmade ice-cream, then I suggest you do that, because today is going to be a scorcher. If ice-cream is not your thing then try out Jill’s easy vanilla cupcake recipe… Since I have no baking experience, Jill took some time out to show me how to bake them:
Jill’s Vanilla Cupcakes
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup milk
Preheat oven at 180 degrees Celsius Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs to this mixture. Add milk and flour alternatively whilst still mixing. Pour into lined cupcake pans. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes. Then decorate as you please.

I used the Ina Paarmen Icing Kit, but as you can see I still need to get the hang of using the piping bag.
